Mold Code Reader

The Mold Code Reader is a Quality Management Sub-System in the Production Process of Glass Containers.

During the molding process the glass containers are imprinted with a dot code. Based on this dot code, the form a glass container was pulled in can be identified. During the production of glass containers many forms (of the same type) are used.

These forms exhibit different wear conditions. Production cannot be stopped to replace a worn out form. The set-up times of molds are substantial (days) and therefore it is more efficient to reject the glass containers that do not meet quality thresholds and to accept the marginal production loss. The rejected glass containers are reprocessed. Since the inspection of the glass containers takes place after the cooling process, a mixture of glass
